Rolly's Brownies Moth National Championships 2013

05 June 2013

Over the last weekend in June 70 International Moths descended on Castle Cove Sailing Club for the Rolly's Brownies Moth National Championships. The UK fleet has continued to grow over the last 5 years and with some help of a few visitors from Europe we saw the biggest Nationals fleet since the foiling revolution. Moths are very exciting single handed dinghies that have hydrofoils so in as little as 8 knots of wind they take-off and fly above the water. Put 70 on a race course and you are in for an adrenalin filled race!

With the weather on our side and a great race team we got 12 races in over the four days and some very big smiles on all the sailors faces at the end of the event. There was some close racing at the front of the fleet but with a great string of bullets and no results outside the top 4 Rob Greenhalgh won with a race to spare and went home with his boat weight in Rolly's Brownies for a prize! In 2nd was Chris Rashley with Simon Hiscocks taking 3rd and first local boat.
